Renovation project - new bedroom and kitchen (well sort of!) - Sunday 9th September 2012

Renovation project - new bedroom and kitchen (well sort of!)  - Sunday 9th September
The break is over and it’s time to get to work, I start on the attic bedrooms, it takes almost all day but we now have a bedroom that is clean and dust free. The big walk in cupboard is given a coat of paint and the last of the old pipe work removed. This is to become our water boiler cupboard and a large walk in wardrobe (I can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel!).

I did say it was clean and dust free not perfect!
All of our belongings are moved into here and we even have some shelves! At least our clothes won’t be dusty before we even wear them anymore, I also get 2 dresses out so that next time we go out for dinner I can wear something different, I have had one going out outfit for the last 6 weeks, I think the whole town has seen it and its time to prove I do possess some other clothes!
John has been locked away in the kitchen and the hallway, the joists are almost finished which means that we have nearly fully functioning ceilings and floors.
He has spent the rest of the day getting the kitchen into some sort of order; he fitted a temporary wooden worktop and rearranged the white goods. The kitchen is starting to become quite functional!

There is still some old lino on the floor and we take that up, the kitchen floor is covered in original tiles and luckily they’re all in good condition other than being covered in tile glue. So 2 hours is spent scraping, scrubbing with wire wool then wiping down, it’s going to take a long time but they do look amazing!

We are still trying to decide what sort of kitchen to install, it’s a toss up between a nice shiny white kitchen or a handmade wooden one (happy to listen to people’s opinions on this one so please comment). But this is a decision for later.
Had a Skype with my daughter and was so relieved to see her looking well, you do worry far more about the kids when you are not there, this is something that I think I will struggle with for a long time, but they are coming to visit in less than 2 weeks !!!!!! They will be staying with friends, as we don’t want to risk them staying in the house, my brother and his wife on the other hand are coming to visit when the kids leave and will be staying here!!!! So this means the en suite will have to be finished and completed and 2 bedrooms fully finished within the next 2 weeks, the race is on.
Top Tips
1.       When you find something original, it is worth the effort to restore it, we have worked it out that it will take at least 2 full days on our hands and knees to bring the floor tiles back to their former glory!
