We have a bathroom floor - 30.01.13

We have a bathroom floor - 30.01.13

Time for the floor to go down in the new bathroom, John does this so quickly and it looks amazing, the floor boards in France have a 3 way tongue and groove locking system, the boards are also thicker and due to having metre gaps between the joists this is necessary.

By having this locking system it means that they can span gaps without the risk of you standing on an end and falling through the floor.

A big tip on fitting these is to have a spare piece of floor board and to hit this with the hammer when fitting together as this prevents any damage to the tongue (as shown in the picture below).

Due to the difference in the joists in France, if you have not done this before, be very wary of the metre gaps as you can fall through and if the floor is not fitted correctly somebody standing on them can end up on the floor below!

The floor is given a quick coat of varnish to seal it, but will need at least 3 or 4 coats to make it look good and ensure that it is waterproof.

The ceiling is given a good clean and a quick sanding ready for decorating.

I also give the wood in the upstairs en suite a couple of coats of wood stain, and this is starting to look much nicer, the stain is a much warmer colour that bare pine.

We also have another strange dinner, as we took so long getting the shopping back, the frozen steak mince had defrosted and had to be used, I could not face another bolognaise so decided to make a mince meat curry, you wouldn’t believe how nice it tasted!
